Destination: Oahu

Oahu is a tropical island paradise in the Hawaiian Island chain. The island is lush with vegetation and has been well maintained, having contemporary civic services like water, waste, transportation, ecological reservation areas etc. During my stay in Oahu there was precious little threat of volcanic activity 1.8 million years. However because this trip was cheap Air Miles funded trip I was staying in a huge urban area, where the typical concerns about honesty and respect between humans applied. However during my entire stay in the Waikiki area no external adverse behavior was witnessed.

Each morning I stayed in Waikiki I made an early morning trip down to the wave sheltered beach area tossed my shirt and sandles on the beach and went snorkelling. Even though there were many more people around than I am comfortable with, luckily no one appeared to make off with my belongings, and I gained at least 30 minutes in the morning of every day observing a new fish every morning. My favorite fish was the Humu-humu-nuku-nuku-apuaʻa because I could hear this fish biting into old coral as I observed it.

Ka'ena Point

If you want calm water in order to do some really great snorkelling then taking a boat from the Waianae harbor towards Ka'ena Point will be a very amazing journey for you. There are giant turtles and Spinner Dolphins for you to see, and when you jump in the water you will be amazed at the diversity of fish awaiting you. Kahuna City

Not that I would suggest it, but when you are in Waikiki you will likely stroll around Honalulu city. There is alot to see, but if your wise you will head outside the city to enjoy the real Hawaii and be able to avoid the trap of just being a tourist. Dolphins

For instance you definitely should take a boat and attempt to swim with the Dolphins. We managed to find a group of local Hawaiians that took us out swimming with Dolphins and Turtles. They were a great and unique group of people that introduced us to the marine life in Hawaii. I want to go home at night with out looking over my shoulder...
